What does health care takeover mean for Florida?
Mar 25, 2010
Congress voted Sunday night for a takeover of our health care system that will cost Floridians in many ways, but will do little to improve their level or quality of care.
The plan forced through in Washington proposes to “fix” health care by expanding a program, Medicaid, which patients, doctors and other providers agree is broken. Expanding Medicaid is NOT the Answer. The costs of this program are out of control and take up more and more of the state budget each year. Currently, 1,259,378 Floridians are enrolled in Medicaid, at an average per-patient cost of $6,625. This year, Florida must spend $18 billion of its $66 billion budget to fund the program. Congress set out to reform health care to control costs and expand and improve health care coverage. What they have done instead is to expand a broken system with uncontrollable costs that provides a poor level of care to patients.
