Senate Education Budget Proctects Classroom Funding
Mar 27, 2009
As you may have read, the Florida Senate released its initial K-12 education budget on Wednesday. This budget protects our schools and contains no cuts to our classrooms. Through a combination of flexibility measures for our districts and the use of gambling revenue and our share of the federal stimulus dollars, we have been able to make sure that we have kept our promise to protect our schools.
In the Senate’s proposed education budget, we have allowed our school districts greater flexibility to use all available resources for funding our classrooms. Under this plan school districts will be able to move funds allocated for construction into classrooms and to delay textbook purchases in subjects like history and math. Additionally, we have proposed that districts already meeting class size requirements can put those resources into classrooms as well. All of these measures are intended to make sure that our students and teachers have the resources they need to be successful.
We will continue to look for additional ways to help our schools as we move through the rest of the legislative session. As always, if I can be of service, please feel free to send me an email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call me at (321) 752-3131.
