Florida Senate brings transparency to budget process, posts state budget online
Jan 20, 2010
Dear Friends,
The Florida Senate today unveiled Transparency Florida, a initiative to make every level of the state’s budget available to Floridians online with an easy-to-navigate website. The site provides Floridians unprecedented access to explore the state’s operating budget and expenditures in real time, providing you the opportunity to see exactly how your tax dollars are being spent. The initiative will turn Florida’s nearly 19 million citizens into independent auditors, able to drill down into agency budgets. Just as Floridians can track their own banking online, they can now logon and do the same with their tax dollars. Former Florida Governor Reubin Askew brought sunshine to state government over 40 years ago. Since then, Florida has had government in the sunshine, but unfortunately, spending has remained in the shade. Today’s roll out of Transparency Florida will truly bring the state’s budget process into the sunshine for all Floridians to see.
