Indiafest this Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 13 & 14 to Benefit Ruuska Village Orphanage in Haiti

Feb 9, 2010

The Indian Community of Brevard County is proud to present the 14th annual Indiafest this Saturday and Sunday, February 13 & 14.  This year, the sponsors of Indiafest have announced that proceeds from the raffle at the event will go to benefit the Ruuska Village orphanage in Haiti, a facility that over the last two decades has helped to serve Port-au-Prince’s estimated 350,000 orphans—a number that has grown dramatically since last month’s devastating earthquakes.  Dr. Silas Charles has offered to donate a dollar-for-dollar match of the funds raised by the raffle drawing.

Since the earthquake, the orphanage and its director, Barbara Walker, have cared for over 50 Haitian orphans, who have been sleeping outdoors until buildings can be made safe.  Ms. Walker has helped to place over 700 orphans with adopted families since she founded the orphanage 20 years ago.  A number of Brevard families have adopted children from the orphanage and are doing what they can to care for the children that remain.  To learn more, please take a moment to read this story from the Florida Today.

Indiafest will feature many aspects of Indian culture, including the country’s music, dance, food, clothing, arts and crafts at the Wickham Park Pavilion near the Brevard Community College campus in Melbourne on February 13, from 10 am to 6 pm, and again on February 14, from 11 am to 5 pm.  To find out how you can help Indiafest and the Ruuska Village orphanage, please contact Mrs. Nina Gadodia by phone at (321) 779-0110 or by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  Details on the Indiafest event can be found online at http://www.indiafestbrevard.org.
