Haridopolos to moderate renewable energy summit in Orlando

Jun 20, 2010

State Sen. President-elect Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, will moderate a summit next month that takes a look at renewable energy in Florida.

Hosted by the Citizens for Clean Energy — a newly formed non-profit backed by various alternative energy companies including the developer of Babcock Ranch, a solar-powered city with 19,500 homes that would straddle Lee and Charlotte counties — the summit is planned for July 8 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

The event will be to discuss how Florida can protect its energy needs and how jobs can be created through expanding clean energy industries in the state.

The event will mirror a jobs summit that Haridopolos and House Speaker designate Dean Cannon, a Winter Park Republican, convened earlier this year. Those talks eventually led to a multimillion-dollar package of tax incentives that lawmakers passed in the spring.
